Kindness. In today's world kindness seems to have become synonymous with weakness. People are afraid to show any kindness because either they will be viewed as weak or someone will take advantage of them for it. We want to fight back all the time to show we are strong, that we aren't someone to be messed with. My friend works at a convenience store. Nightly she is subjected to people being rude not only in how they treat the store but also in how they speak to her. She is one of the friendliest women I know. That's how I met her.. at the store. But she's great and that's how we became buds. Why make life miserable for the worker. If you dump a cup on the floor, spill things or knock something over it doesn't magically pick itself up. She's the one that has to do that. She keeps the store clean for everyone. She works very hard. For all her hard work she's verbally abused, or people call the corporate office with things like....she looked at me. She will be the first to tell you she doesn't need you to tell her she's fat she already knows thank you very much. She doesn't need comments on her physical appearance. She's there to do a job but instead she's busy being made miserable all night long. Would it hurt any of these people to show some kindness? Pick up the things you drop? Wipe up your spill? Why is it so hard to be decent to someone that is working for you to get the things you want? Years ago I used to wonder why so many workers at stores are so nasty. I get it now. I have seen her be in a wonderful mood and stand there and see some person be obnoxiously rude for no reason. To put up with that over and over all night long would make Mother Theresa lose her sainthood.
The world is so frantic, hectic, stressed, you name it. I decided awhile back I want off the merry-go-round. I also decided I'm concerned about making sure my family has what it needs as prices skyrocket and our food gets tainted more and more.
So, here we are. On a journey to a calmer, more productive, self sufficient life. Tons of people blog about it. We are no different, and have nothing more to offer than anyone else. Less really because we are still pretty new to it. Mostly this is for myself, and for the friends and family that want to know what we do. Welcome to everyone. I hope you enjoy my random, wandering, wayward thought process and all the everyday stuff that just happens.
